35th Bramley Show Report
The 35th Bramley show was held on Sunday 13th August and I am pleased to report that after a disappointing event in 2022, this year’s show was very well attended. An estimated 200 people turned up to view the nearly 400 exhibits on display.
This represents a substantial increase in the number of entrants and visitors to the show and it was very pleasing to see the diversity of those participating, including our younger residents from the Bramley School and local Guide Group right through all age groups to the residents of our local care homes. So, thank you all of Bramley for showing your support.
We are aware that to survive Bramley Show needs to evolve to make the competition relevant to the 21st century but also maintain all the elements of a traditional village show. To do this we updated many of the classes to reflect modern trends especially in the Handicraft and Cookery sections.
Another innovation this year was the introduction of the digital Photographic competition. This proved very popular with 109 high quality photos received. This was triple the normal number of entries received for this category. For those that missed the show we are hoping to post the entries as a slide show on this site at some point in the near future.
We also launched the Tallest Sunflower Competition this year, which was open to all age groups and we had a staggering 80 entrants. I know that not all of you managed to get your plants to maturity and some befell disasters like hungry slugs and wayward footballs, but many of you managed to achieve over 2 metres and the winning entry reached a very respectable 3 metres. For those that did not achieve this dizzying height there is always next year.
I also need to say a big thank you to all my fellow committee members and the people who voluntarily gave up their time to be a judge, be a steward and importantly be there to serve us drinks and scrumptious cakes. Not forgetting those behind the scenes, who run our website and social media pages. Thanks also need to go to Andrew Morgan who presented all the prizes and did a marvellous job of relieving people of their cash in the end of show auction.
Of course, there would be no show without the people of Bramley participating. We understand that you have busy lives and how much effort, care and time is needed by both adults and children to make an entry into the Show, so can I say a huge thank you to you all. Your efforts helped make this years show a real success.
However, the Show does not just happen, and the planning starts now for next year’s show. We always need more help with this, so if you can spare a couple of hours a month to help with the organising, or just have a suggestion how we can improve the show then, please get in touch.
