The Bramley Show is an annual event held every August in the village hall. It’s an opportunity for all residents of Bramley and the surrounding villages to exhibit their skills in gardening, floral art, cookery, painting, photography and numerous handicrafts.
In early 1987 five local Bramley villagers formed “The Bramley and Little London Horticultural Group”. Of these probably the best known were Pat Jones and Phyll Davies. Sadly, both are no longer with us.
The first actual show took place in Sept 1987 with the help of a donation of £25 from the Clift brothers and it made a profit of £120.32p. Some of the profits from the show were donated to the new village hall to help with the purchase of curtains.
The early shows concentrated purely on home grown produce such as fruit, vegetables and flowers. More recently the schedule has been expanded to include Art, Photography, Floral Displays, Various Crafts and Cookery. There are also classes now aimed specifically for children.
The Bramley Show is one the three major long serving annual events in the village and had an unbroken run for 33 years until the Pandemic forced us to cancel the live shows in 2020 & 2021 events. A virtual show was held in 2020 and we are now planning the 2022 show.
Although it is called the Bramley Show, entries are accepted from anyone who lives within a five mile radius of Bramley.
Typically, there are between 80-90 different classes in every show, spread over the different disciplines. Trophies are awarded to the best entries in certain classes.
We aim to ensure the show evolves every year to reflect the changing demographic of the village. To this end we are always open to and welcome new ideas for classes and any suggestions on how we can improve the appeal of the show.
Every show is run and organised by Volunteers. Essentially, we are a “Not for Profit” organisation. Our aim is to cover our costs but if we do make a profit, we try to donate a proportion of these to local good causes.
The majority of our funds are raised at the annual show and we are therefore very dependent on the support of the local community. There is no actual entry fee to the show, although we do ask for voluntary contributions and we do charge a nominal fee for each class you may wish to enter. There is also a raffle. However, the chief contribution is provided by the wonderful efforts of the local branch of the WI. They make and serve all the teas and coffees plus all the delicious cakes that are enthusiastically consumed at every show. Thank You WI.
