This is a simple knitted hat, which can be made in a plain colour or why not make it in various colours e.g. one colour for the rib and another colour for the main part. You could even add a pom pom! Once done you can enter it in the Knitted / crocheted class in the craft section of the show!
What you need
1 x 100g dk yarn
4mm needles
Sewing needle
Instructions
Cast on 118 stitches
Row 1. Slip 1st stitch.( K2, P2) repeat to last stitch K1.
Repeat this row until work measures 8 inches from the cast on edge.
Decreasing at top of hat
Row 1. Slip 1st stitch. (k2tog) repeat to last stitch. K1 (60 stitches)
Row 2. Slip 1st stitch. Purl to last stitch. K1
Row 3. Slip 1st stitch. (k2tog) repeat to last stitch. K1 (31 stitches)
Row 4. Slip 1st stitch. Purl to last stitch. K1
Row 5. Slip 1st stitch. (k2tog) repeat to last stitch. (16 stitches)
Row 6. Slip 1st stitch. (p2tog) to last stitch. K1. (9 stitches)
Pull yarn through stitches left on needle and pull stitches up.
With right sides together sew down the side seam.
Chunky knit Ribbed Beanie Hat
An alternative version using chunky wool
What you need
6mm needles
1 x 100g chunky wool or two strands of double knit yarn.
Sewing needle
Instructions
Cast on 90 stitches.
Row 1. Slip 1st stitch.( K2, P2) repeat to last stitch K1.
Repeat this row until work measures 8 inches from the cast on edge.
Decreasing at top of hat
Row 1. Slip 1st stitch. (k2tog) repeat to last stitch. K1 (46 stitches)
Row 2. Slip 1st stitch. Purl to last stitch. K1
Row 3. Slip 1st stitch. (k2tog) repeat to last stitch. K1 (24 stitches)
Row 4. Slip 1st stitch. Purl to last stitch. K1
Row 5. Slip 1st stitch. (k2tog) repeat to last stitch. (13 stitches)
Row 6. Slip 1st stitch. (p2tog) to last stitch. (7 stitches)
Pull yarn through stitches left on needle and pull stitches up.
With right sides together sew down the side seam.
